President: Joe Maher

In April 2002, Mr. Maher founded Opus Bono Sacerdotii with two other businessmen and a Catholic priest in Detroit, Michigan. He received much public attention for his staunch support of a priest from his parish who was accused of rape. Consequently, many other priests contacted Mr. Maher for help. Today, over 2,000 priests have contacted Opus Bono Sacerdotii for assistance, with more calling on a weekly basis.

Opus Bono Sacerdotii is Latin for “work for the good of the priesthood” and was created for the purpose of finding solutions to the problems confronting priests and religious in accordance with the authentic teaching of the Church, and of the Holy Father and his predecessors.

Prior to founding Opus Bono Sacredotii, Mr. Maher was CEO of Opus Bono Corporation in Detroit. Opus Bono provides financial systems analysis and improvement for Fortune 500 companies like General Motors, Ford, Daimler Chrysler, Consumers Energy, and others.

In 1986, following graduation from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor's of Science in Written Communications and Marketing, Mr. Maher moved to Beverly Hills, California , where he was a founder and senior level manager for several successful high-tech, Internet and entertainment industry companies. Throughout his career, he has advised the Smithsonian Institution, the White House, Library of Congress, the Federal City Council, and the Department of Defense.

In the media, Mr. Maher has appeared on TV and radio including CNN, Fox, NBC, ABC, CBS, and NPR in live news conferences, and on talk shows. He has also written and directed TV commercials and promotional films for General Motors’ Buick and Oldsmobile in-house productions and has appeared internationally on the United States Information Agency’s World Net Television. 

Mr. Maher has served on the board of many charitable organizations and has raised several million dollars for charities. He has been recognized for outstanding service to the community and he is a Papal Knight. He and his wife are members of Legatus, which is an international organization of Catholic CEOs.
